The Black Rose
Born to former slaves on a Louisiana plantation in 1867, Madam C.J. Walker rose from poverty and indignity to become America's first black female millionaire, the head of a hugely successful beauty company, and a leading philanthropist in African American causes. Renowned author Alex Haley became fascinated by the story of this extraordinary heroine, and before his death in 1992, he embarked on the research and outline of a major novel based on her life. Now with The Black Rose, critically acclaimed writer Tananarive Due brings Haley's work to an inspiring completion. Blending documented history, vivid dialogue, and a sweeping fictionalized narrative, Tananarive Due paints a vivid portrait of this passionate and tenacious pioneer and the unforgettable era in which she lived.

The Black Rose of Halfeti
The Black Rose of Halfeti opens with a letter delivered at midnight in Ankara, Turkey. In this letter, an elderly doctor who has begun to experience the first signs of dementia professes his love and desire for a relationship with the narrator, a woman in middle age beginning to contemplate her own mortality. From there, the novel moves between Mardin, Izmir, and Ankara; the past and the present; and the real and the imagined as the narrator seeks to know the doctor both in his prime and in his struggle to hold senility at bay. In these dreamlike landscapes, the author effortlessly introduces King Darius, the Spanish director Luis Buñuel, the actress Silvia Pinal, and the archetypal dream woman as the narrator's guides in her efforts to understand the human psyche. Nazli Eray has established herself as a master of magical realism, the perfect tool to bring to life this poignant meditation on love, aging, and the role of memory. And, as in her earlier novels, she paints vivid images of the urban landscapes of Turkey, capturing both the present and the past.
Fear of the Black Rose
There are five completely different Murder Mysteries within these pages. They are all fiction and have fictitiously taken place in Western Washington. One is on Pier 5 on the Waterfront in Seattle, one starts out at Alki Beach, one is in on a golf coarse, one is about a murder of a bussinessman, and one takes place in a commercial kitchen. They are all different, but all end in Murder. I think you will enjoy them very much. Thank you.
Black Rose Dying
BLACK ROSE; DYING is a book of dramatic and insightful poetry that was written through the eyes of a soldier who has been deployed to Iraq three times. Edward Val's poems are inspired by the emotion, passion, and drive he felt after being exposed to the horrors of war and the inspiration of bravery. The reflections revealed in this book of poems span the four seasons as they release trapped feelings and express hard-to-face truths. It is easy for soldiers who are exposed to so much devastation to view the world as a place of darkness, but moments of light penetrate briefly and powerfully, and that is what Val's profound poetry is made of. EDWARD VAL writes in order to release emotions and express himself. Black Rose; Dying was written over a two-year period while Val was mostly deployed in Iraq. Val is in the U.S. Army and is a full-time college student, and this book of poetry draws on what he has witnessed, both good and bad. Val grew up in Spring Hill, Florida, and is now stationed at Fort Campbell, Kentucky. Look forward to the author's next book, Of Tooth and Nail, the first installment in a three-volume fantasy novel series.
