Cette édition se compose d'une série de cinq tomes réunissant les Discours prononcés par le Général de Gaulle, du 18 juin 1940 au 28 avril 1969 dans des circonstances déterminées d'avance et dont, pour cette raison, le texte exact a pu être conservé, soit écrit de sa main pour les allocutions radiodiffusées et télévisées, soit noté par sténographie officielle pour ses discours en public ou devant les Assemblées. Ne figurent pas dans ces recueils les allocutions (en très grand nombre) improvisées par le Général de Gaulle au cours de la même période, devant les auditoires les plus divers, et dont le texte n'a pu, le plus souvent, être reconstitué d'une manière précise. L'édition est établie avec le concours de M.François Goguel.
